CHARLES K. SHORT

Charles K. Short (Charlie) was born in LaSalivas, Calif., and has been training and racing horses since 1918, when he purchased his first mount out of a wreck on the track for $200, Silver Tips. From there he untangled the sulky and horse, received permission to drive, and proceeded to win the final two heats; and has continued the winning habit each year.

In 1947 he raced horses for Mel Daniel. Barney Rubin, Walter Chisholm, McLoney, Dan Rosenstein and Jimmy Cagney at Hollywood Park, Bay Meadows and through the California Fair Circuit. His fastest performer being the trotter, Miss Sedgwick 4, 2:043/5. The Leon June mare was without a record at the start of the 1947 campaign and defeated a fast field of trotters at Santa 'Rosa to earn her present mark.

Charlie will train a public stable at Pomona, Calif., where he can be reached by owners with prospects for the 1948 racing season.
